What Is An Alberta MyPass Account And Why Do All Highschool Students Need It?

An Alberta MyPass account is a subsidiary of Alberta Education, and it allows current and former students to access their school records including: ordering transcripts (in English and Français), view diploma exam marks, register to write (or re-write) diploma exams, view detailed academic reports, view student progress towards graduation/credentials, order online copies of student credentials (in English and Français), as well as receive notifications for important messages regarding your education.

MyPass account's are pretty much mandatory now because its the one place where you can access all of your educational records, and many universities require enrollees to create an Alberta MyPass account to even apply to go to post-secondary. This is something that you usually set up in Grade 10. But being a homeschooled student, many people actually end up graduating without even knowing that they should be creating this account, and this can lead to set backs when applying to university. Nobody tells you about this, so it's basically up to the student to keep on top of researching these kind of things.

Here, I will walk you through the simple steps of creating an Alberta MyPass account.

#2: Click "sign-in with education account" (this is how you sign in and create a new account, don't bother hitting the "how do I sign up?" button beneath it because it will just redirect you to Alberta Education's website.)

#3: Click the "I'm new, sign me up" button, and enter your email.

#4: You are then sent a confirmation link to your email address, which you must click to activate.

#5: You will be redirected to a page where you must fill out your personal information (first and last name, address, phone number, email address confirmation, password, screen name, and most importantly, your 9 digit Alberta Student Number also known as ASN).

In order to find your Alberta Student Number, you can look on your HEP or parent summary, or even your student ID card may have it. If you still cannot find your ASN number, try looking on previous report cards or PAT scores on Schoolzone (accessed under the "Student Profile" tab at the top of the page, you can find report cards under the "achievements" tab.)

#6: When you complete all of your information, you will be given options of how to receive a confirmation code from Alberta Education to verify your account set up. (I chose a mailed out letter to my address, it took about 2-3 business days). Once your confirmation code has been entered on Alberta MyPass, your account will be successfully set up!

Congrats! 🎉
